Clarinet Fingerings

The following pages will take you through the basic finger placements for clarinet notes. These fingerings change the pitch of the instrument. We'll start with the fingerings most students begin with and then give some intermediate fingerings. You can either go through the tutorial step by step or you can direct yourself to any specific fingering you're in need of.

Because instruments are not perfect sometimes certain notes can tend to be a little too high or low in pitch without going far enough to actually change which note it is. This can sound very bad if not corrected, so at the bottom of every fingering page there is a message if the note is out of tune. Sharp means the night is too high, Flat means the note is too low. In most cases this can be corrected with the simple knowledge that the problem exists and either applying slightly more or less lip pressure to the reed for the specific note. To help with this, purchasing a tuner is an essential step to help your child succeed.
