Saxophone First Note

The goal is that upon the first attempt to make a sound, the student should attain success! With this goal in mind, please let your child's band director take them on this step. Once this first sound is achieved students often go home and practice making that sound for hours, sometimes to our chagrin. The "First Note" chapter is intended to give you examples of proper sound and its production so that you can help at this stage. It is very important to be encouraging, since the more we put up with the experimentation and practice now, the quicker the sound will improve to where you'll be begging to hear more!

A common word you will read and hear in conjunction with playing a wind instrument is "embouchure". An embouchure is the way the lips form when playing an instrument.
