Warm Ups

The following are intended as supplements to materials given by the teacher and a method book which should always be used early on. The following warm ups are meant to improve the tone quality of the saxophone early on and should be given 5-10 minutes before a practice session. The warm ups presented here are intended to give a good tone quality to the beginner player by focusing on a steady (no "waves") sound and practicing playing loudly to build embouchure strength. Taking these as slowly as possible will benefit the beginner in the long term. After a steady solid sound is being produced scales should be incorporated into the warm up as well.

This exercise should be played soft to loud and then to soft again and slurred (no tongue used). This can be continued down playing new notes and then playing the same note one octave up.
