One of the most important and overlooked aspects of a young musician's training is listening to great music! Many students don't listen to great bands and orchestras. This is a shame, because talented soloists offer great examples of tone and many other aspects of music for new players. In my experience, having a role model on one's own instrument is crucial to a young musician's growth. Below are links to lists of good artists and solos for each instrument. A great resource for listening is Rhapsody, a service that has virtually every recording one could ever want for a small subscription fee or for free (with 20 "free listens" a month).
